Dr. Kirsten Aarbo

Kirsten was born and raised in rural Alberta and is greatly enjoying practicing in the area that she grew up! After graduating high school in Black Diamond, she obtained a BSc in molecular and microbiology at the University of Calgary. She then completed her DVM at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, graduating with distinction and receiving the AAHA Senior Student Award for outstanding achievement in small animal medicine and surgery. Kirsten then completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Washington State Veterinary College in Pullman, Washington, and moved to Massachusetts to study emergency medicine for a year. She then practiced in general practice in Vermont for several years before returning to Alberta to settle down. She practiced full time in Calgary for 7 years before starting her family, and has been working part time the past few years. She is excited to be working a more regular schedule now that her children are at school age!

Kirsten enjoys all aspects of veterinary practice, but her favorite areas are surgery, dentistry, immunology, and palliative care. When she is not working she enjoys running, triathlons, reading, and hanging out with her husband and three active boys. She is currently a Member of Council for the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association and serves on several committees.
